You have got to love an ambitious project, and Parenthetical Girls of Portland have quite the grandiose new record on their hands. Well, parts of the new full length that is. Taking their initial inspiration from the suicide of a young woman by the name of Evelyn McHale (the sad story culminates with Ms. Mchale successfully throwing herself from the observation deck of the Empire State Building), Parenthetical Girls kick off Privilege with a jaunty melody juxtaposed with the dark narrative of Evelyn McHale’s struggles with life and gravity. This track is just the first installment of the new full length record that will see ongoing release over the next 15 month period as a series of limited EP’s that will ultimately form the new record. The first installment, subtitled On Death & Endearments, will be available on February 23rd exclusively from the band’s own Slender Means Society label.
