Finding yourself becoming exhausted with your run of the mill, straight forward, overly accessible pop music? Then perhaps you might try a sampling of the latest polyrhythmic, semi-schizophrenic, amalgam of sounds compiled by Pop Levi. This former bassist from Ladytron has holed up in the same studio that saw the creation of other past pop masterpieces such as Thriller and Off the Wall (from the sorely missed “Classic Jackson” era, i.e.: before the creation of that plastic monster with an unusual preference for adolescent sleepovers), and has produced a unique sound that eschews the standard pattern of pop for a more invigorating and aurally challenging sound. “Never Never Love”, the title track from Levi’s upcoming release, borrows unashamedly from multiple genres, mixing electronic engineering, straight forward rock, and an almost palatable Jacksonian vocal influence, to create an enticingly invigorating track that relies upon syncopation more than a concrete beat. By the close of “Never Never Love” one thing is certain, despite the plethora of borrowed influences, Pop Levi has forged a new brand pop music that is as unusual as it is refreshing.
