“The songs are honest: just chords with real voices singing real melodies.” That’s pretty much it, as is succinctly surmised in The Avett Brothers bio: these boys play the hell out of heart wrenching songs that distill the dissonance and joy of life. Now, after much press coverage, a move to a larger label, and the assistance of King Midas himself (Rick Rubin), The Avett Brothers have released the title track from their upcoming release, I And Love And You. The brothers will debut their fifth full-length on Rubin’s American Records, and their penchant for penning emotive and direct songs has not even been remotely altered with the addition of the super producer. “I And Love And You” displays all of the Avett’s strengths, boasting a mesmerising vocal delivery and lyrics that cause the listener to hang on every word and every note.
