I love the current increase in bands like Hot Chip or, in this case, The Juan MacLean. The electro wave mix makes for a modern nostalgia for someone who spent his formative adolescence drenched in new wave. On St Patrick’s day TJM released the One Day Remix EP from the upcoming album, The Future Will Come. Opening with a robotic female voice, a kick drum, and synths, it builds into something that sounds like Human League redux. On the James Curd remix of “One Day,” Nancy Wang of LCD Soundsystem sings “One day baby you’ll realize that I’m the one,” in duet with “the” Juan. The album also features appearances from other DFA label mates. Based on my enjoyment of his last album, I’d hazard that the future not only will come but one of it’s emissaries is already here.
